“Sometimes you fail. But then new ideas or what ifs come to the brain and then the excitement is back.” – Allison
✦Meet Allison
Allison doesn’t create in straight lines.
She creates in bursts, collisions, and beautifully unfiltered momentum.
She is a vibrant, free-spirited, and wonderfully unpredictable creative whose approach to making feels less like a structured process and more like controlled chaos with a mind of its own. She doesn’t chase perfection, and she definitely isn’t curating her space for anyone else’s approval. Her workspace is layered, lived-in, and unapologetically cluttered—full of half-finished ideas, forgotten projects, and sparks waiting to catch.
And somehow… it all works.

In a world obsessed with clean lines, polished outcomes, and “finished” creativity, her way of creating feels almost rebellious. A little louder. A little freer. A little like, I’m going to do this my way and figure it out as I go.
And that’s where something important lives.
Because creativity was never meant to exist only in the final product. Sometimes it’s just for you—for your mind, your emotions, your curiosity, your need to make something without needing it to become anything at all.
Allison embodies that kind of creativity.

The kind that exists simply because it wants to.
Creative Conversations is a monthly Q&A series where I sit down with creatives from all walks of life—some familiar, some newly discovered—to talk about creativity as it really exists. The pauses. The pivots. The returning. And the courage it takes to keep creating in the middle of everyday life.
So, I asked her a few questions about how she creates, what inspires her, and what it looks like to exist in a creative process that doesn’t always follow rules—and doesn’t need to.
✦ Everyday Creativity
How did you first start playing with tie-dye?
I honestly don’t remember. Most likely say another artist post it or a YouTuber I was obsessed with do a video on it. It was one of my more longer hipper fixation crafts. (@imbrandonfarris or @AylaJalynVlogs)
When inspiration shows up for you, does it feel sudden or does it build slowly?
Like ideas? Oh those come on suddenly and sometimes there’s too many to choose from.
When you’re creating, do you lean more toward messy fun or careful and detailed? I am chaos. My craft branch is a mess but I know where everything is about 80% of the time.

If your creative style had a personality, how would you describe it?
A whimsical glitter farting unicorn with ADHD that may have had a Monster or Mountain Dew to drink most days.
If you had to choose one material to work with for a long time, what would you pick? Gems/stones or beads. You can have the five or so different kinds of each bead or gem and still make something different each time you start a new pair of earrings or bracelet.
What creative thing is currently living on your table, desk, or workspace?Umm there’s some seedlings I am trying to get started. Some bracelets I need to re-string. A gift craft that I started back in 2022 for a YouTuber that I have yet to finish. A rose that I want to glitter.

Have you ever had a project that didn’t go as planned? What happened? All the time! Omg everything I try comes with challenges and different outcomes than expected. That’s one thing I love about crafting, never know how you’re going to get it done. It’s frustrating and sometimes you fail. But then new ideas or what if’s come to the brain and then the excitement is back. I think that’s why I liked tie dye so much, you never really knew how that shirt would come out.
Between time and energy, which one usually gets in the way of creating for you? I always say if I had more time I could or would.. but I don’t. It’s more energy and mental health/capacity I have available at the time. Motivation to actually sit down and work is really hard for me to regain in. I usually talk myself out of trying with the simple fact that when I start I will have to stop and I don’t like stopping unfinished tasks because it takes me so long to get back to them. Hence all the unfinished crafts I have.

Do you ever find it hard to make time to create when life is busy? Yes I do. If I could get myself to focus more on making time for the art, that would be fabulous. I know there’s time, I spend it on the little farm game that’s on my phone. It’s just something I have to put more effort into and most days I can’t.
Does creating usually help your mood, or does it depend on the day? When mistress motivation finally shows up, I feel great. I love creating and seeing what comes out of it. That alone makes me want to do it more. But my mood or emotions really determine if I get to craft or not.

What’s something creativity has helped you learn about yourself? I’m actually a really good problem solver in my opinion. And I like learning from the materials I use and see what they will or won’t do. I like “going in blind” and figuring it out on my own. But there is nothing wrong with asking for help or searching tutorials. @RiahsTieDye or @LSDTieDyeTV on YouTube had a video that helped me understand how to make a heart with tie dye on a shirt.
If there were no limits at all, what’s something fun you’d love to try making next? Um do you mean money limits? Because I’ve been itching to do more fake flower arrangements. And I need more earring materials. I also have a wood burner that I’ve been wanting to use but I’m actually a bit nervous to try it. I did have a Michael’s the crafting store credit card but I was not being smart with it so I had to cancel it.

Do you have any advice to others out there wanting to be more creative but may be struggling with getting started? Draw some inspiration from other artists you like. Being inspired and coping is definitely a fine line to balance. But art is art. I throw on a good playlist or podcast and let my mind go. Have the materials talk to me and see where they want to go. Just sit down and doodle or sketch or whatever creative material you got and take one small step towards anything. Sometimes that’s all you need before you take off!
Anything else you would like to share, we would love to hear it 🙂
Just do you boo. Find something you like or want try and go from there. You’ll find fun along the way. The muses are always spreading creativity
✦ Closing Reflection
Creativity like Allison’s doesn’t sit still long enough to be neatly defined. It spills, it shifts, it pauses, it returns. It lives in the unfinished corners, the chaotic tables, the projects waiting for their second (or fifth) attempt.
Her process is a reminder that creativity doesn’t need to behave to be real. It doesn’t need to be aesthetic, organized, or completed to matter. Sometimes it’s loud. Sometimes it’s scattered. Sometimes it’s just a glitter-covered idea still figuring itself out.
And maybe that’s the part we forget most—
that the process isn’t something to get through.
It’s the whole point.
