Getting creative for Valentine’s Day this year has been… a struggle. Trying to figure out what to do brought back some hilarious memories from 2024. Baby girl wasn’t even walking yet, which meant I could actually set things up without tiny hands redecorating everything in a five-mile radius.
She was tiny enough that we could use her little booty to make cute shapes, and of course hearts were at the top of the list. We made the sweetest Valentine’s picture together, and it’s one of those memories I’ll probably hold onto forever.

Then one afternoon while she was napping, I had an idea. The kind of idea that feels equal parts sweet and slightly unhinged. I wanted to make something special for dada… but this time I was going to need a MUCH larger canvas.
Now let’s be honest. I had never put paint on my butt before. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get stuck to the canvas, if the end result would look like anything recognizable, or if I was about to create the world’s most confusing abstract art piece.
But I did it anyway.

And to my surprise… it actually turned out pretty good. The size difference between mine and baby girl’s hearts is HUGE, which honestly just made it even funnier.

What started as a silly little idea turned into one of those moments that reminds you creativity doesn’t always have to be serious or perfect. Sometimes it looks ridiculous. You might question every life choice mid-project. And somehow… those are the exact moments that end up meaning the most.
My husband loved it. We laughed a lot. And it reminded me that stepping outside the box, even in the weirdest ways, can bring so much joy.
Creativity doesn’t always have to be polished or Pinterest-perfect. Sometimes it’s messy, unexpected, and a little ridiculous… and that’s exactly what makes it memorable.
Moments like this are exactly why Spiraling Creatively exists. Creativity doesn’t wait for the perfect season of life, a clean house, or a moment where you feel completely put together. Sometimes it shows up during nap time with a wild idea and an extra-large canvas. Sometimes it looks messy, ridiculous, and completely outside your comfort zone. But every time you choose to create anyway, you reclaim a little piece of yourself. You remember that joy lives in the trying, not just the outcome. And if my slightly chaotic Valentine’s art taught me anything, it’s this: the willingness to show up imperfectly is where the real magic begins.
