The Leap into sensory play and creative entrepreneurship

Taking the Leap

I’ve decided to finally take the leap.

I don’t have a perfectly mapped-out five-year plan. I don’t know exactly where this road will twist or surprise me. But I do know what I’m building right now.

Spiraling Creatively is officially stepping into sensory experiences and craft kits.

These sensory bins and themed kits are designed for ages 3 and up with adult supervision. While they’re wonderful for early childhood learning and classroom sensory tables, they’re truly for anyone who finds joy in tactile play.

Curious little hands.
Creative big hands.
Anyone who feels calmer with texture between their fingers.

I just opened my Etsy shop, and it’s still in its baby stages. My goal is to have everything up and running before my first craft fair in March.

That sentence both thrills me and makes my stomach do tiny somersaults.

It All Started With “Pasta Time”

My daughter plays with her sensory bin made from noodles handed down to us like a tiny heirloom from my stepmom. She plays with it every single day.

While she scoops and pours and narrates her little world, I found myself absentmindedly running rice and beads through my fingers.

And something clicked.

I wasn’t just supervising sensory play.
I was participating in it.

The texture was grounding.
The repetition was calming.
It felt like mindful, hands-on play in the middle of motherhood.

That’s when I realized this isn’t just about children’s activities or classroom sensory bins. Sensory experiences are for anyone who enjoys tactile creativity.

Kids, yes.
But also grown-ups who need something soothing and screen-free at the end of a long day.

From Idea to Reality

I already had a notebook full of theme ideas:

  • Seasonal sensory bins
  • Imaginative play setups
  • Fine motor activities
  • Hands-on learning experiences

So I decided it was time to give it a real shot.

Lately I’ve been:

  • Designing business cards
  • Creating safety labels
  • Filming behind-the-scenes videos
  • Editing photos
  • Packaging everything with intention

I now have seven themed sensory bags and several coordinating sensory boosters in the works.

Some of these sensory kits will be limited edition. Once they’re gone, they won’t return exactly the same way. There may be variations in the future, but each batch will have its own personality.

Why Sensory Play Matters

If “pasta time” taught me anything, it’s this:

Sensory play creates connection.
It builds creativity.
It invites us to slow down and explore the world with our hands.

These handmade sensory kits are designed for supervised play and are not taste-safe, making them best suited for children ages 3 and up and beyond.

They’re wonderful for mamas, caregivers, homeschoolers, and teachers looking for engaging sensory experiences.

But they’re also for anyone who loves tactile, calming, hands-on experiences:

  • Adults who find peace in sorting beads or feeling textures
  • Teens who love tactile fidgets
  • Creative souls looking for screen-free play

Sensory play isn’t just for children. It’s grounding. It’s imaginative. It’s simple, open-ended joy.
