In Progress: The Gothic Headboard That Got Away From Me

I started this project last year, fully convinced I’d have it finished before my husband and I’s anniversary.
It’s now January of the following year.
And I am still not done.

The plan was to redesign our bedroom with a romantic, gothic feel. We got married on Halloween dressed as vampires—an entire story for another time, which I can’t wait to tell. But I digress.

While brainstorming the design, I had the brilliant idea that I would make a grand headboard. This headboard would include bats, embedded mirrors, and a plush velvet pillow lining the front.

What was I thinking?

Well… besides the fact that it will be absolutely incredible when it’s done.

I’ve never made a headboard before. I don’t know how to do any of the things I conjured up in my head.

So naturally, I started anyway.

There are a few early videos floating around on TikTok and Instagram—me taping giant pieces of paper to the wall and just… drawing. Or the moment I decided it was a good idea to cut a massive piece of Styrofoam in my bedroom, on my bed, with a tiny hand saw.

Talk about a freaking mess.

And that’s where this project currently stands—unfinished, messy, and still very much in progress.
